Sridevi Ingenious Career
A powerhouse of talent, Sridevi got better with her acting skills with her prolong stay behind the screens. She had gathered a plenty of experience as a child that eased her process when she stepped into the Bollywood realm. The only obstacle she had to fight through was the language barrier. She had a heavy tongue and an authoritative Tamilian accent. Therefore, first few appearances of the actress were dubbed by voice artists. But with time, she got efficient with the Hindi language and started delivering dialogues with finesse.
The beauty at her best
Sridevi’s first credit lead role in the Bollywood came in 1979 in the form of Solva Sawan. It was after a gap of 4 straight years that she received a role alongside Jeetendra in the film, Himmatwala. She became an overnight star with the release of the movie. With the movie being a sensational hit, Sridevi and Jeetendra’s tantalizing chemistry was applauded and the actress received a tag ‘thunderous thighs’ for the portrayal of the character in the song, Naino Mein Sapna.
Just a year later after her first Bollywood hit, she appeared in Tohfa which went on to become the highest Bollywood grosser of 1984. With staggering performances, Sridevi subsequently cemented her place in the Hindi film industry. She acted in several movies after the long-lived success of her earlier films. Her pairing with Jeetendra became a formula to get the film on the blockbuster charts. She was highly praised for her role in Sadma, but somehow the film couldn’t do well at the audience’s perspective.
She enticed the Indian masses with her portrayal of revenge-seeking snake in the movie Nagina. Not only the film managed to enjoy great success at the Box office, but also she astounded a million hearts with the prolific performance in the song, Main Teri Dushman. She was yet again convincing in films like Karma and Janbaaz where even her cameo roles over-shadowed the screen presence of the lead actresses in the movie. Such was her aura she persevered to claim the ultimate throne in the Hindi film industry.
Following her success, she managed to appear in commercially successful films throughout her career during the late 80’s and early 90’s. She was the leading heroine of the Yash Raj Productions and did several films with the banner which were met with tremendous success. She was insanely exquisite in the movie, Mr. India where she played the role of a bubbly TV reporter with much flair. She even played a double role in Chaalbaaz which was met with appreciation.
The wide array of roles she played with much efficiency is what sets her apart from the rest. Just to add to her glorious characterization and personification of roles in the movies, the number of movies she has acted in is terrific. She played character roles in more than 375 movies in an industry heavily dominated by the male-centric movies. It is believed she even snubbed movies alongside Amitabh Bachchan, as those movies revolved around the angry young man.
Cometh the Comeback
She faded from the industry after her marriage. Sridevi bid adieu to her acting career after tying the knot with the famous filmmaker, Boney Kapoor. She made brief appearances on small screens in 2004 in TV drama, Mrs. Malini Iyer, but didn’t make any big screen appearance. She was even seen as a judge on a TV reality show, Kaboom. She marked her comeback in the industry after a drought of 13 years in the movie titled English Vinglish. The film was head to toe perfect according to the critics. It garnered extraordinary compliments from the masses and enjoyed remarkable success. Her comeback was as strong as her earlier movies which gave a reminiscent of the greatness of her acting abilities.
