Amir Khan Family
The veteran actor was born to the famous film producer Tahir Hussain and Zeenat Hussain. His paternal uncle, Naseer Hussain was a well-known actor of his time. Amir Khan is the eldest child in his family, who has two sisters and a brother. Faisal Khan, his brother is an actor whilst his sisters Nikhat and Farhat lead a very low key life. Imran Khan, who made his debut with Jaane Tu Ya Jane Na is his nephew. For an entire family revolving in and around Bollywood, Amir had the perfect atmosphere to nurture his love towards filmmaking.
The imperfect Childhood days of the Perfectionist
Khan attended the St. Agnes School in Bandra till the 8th standard and then moved to Bombay Scottish to complete his schooling. He later completed his higher education from Narsee Monjee’s college. He was a state level tennis champion in his young days and has confessed being more attracted towards sports than studies.
Amir Khan was bought up in a family where money flow was scarce. His father’s production endeavors had failed. Hence, his parents wanted to pursue a steady career. Instead, Amir was already in love with the magical journey of filmmaking. Amir debuted on the big screen for his uncle’s motion picture Yaadon Ki Baraat which was a sensational hit of that time. In the same year, Khan played the younger version of Mahendra Sandhu in Madhosh.
Amir got addicted to filmmaking when he acted in an experimental 40-minute silent film Paranoia which was sponsored by the veteran actor, Sriram Lagoo. Khan also directed the film alongside his school friend Aditya Bhattacharya. He then worked backstage at Prithvi Theatre before making his stage debut with a small role in a Gujarati play, Kesar Bina. Khan discontinued his high school studies and instead started assisting his uncle with direction. He was an assistant director of films like Manzil Manzil and Zabardast.
The Dawn of an Era
Apart from assisting his uncle, Amir acted in several documentaries that were directed by the students from the FTI Pune. Ketan Mehta noticed Amir Khan’s performances in those films and cast him in his experimental film Holi. Amir’s role in the movie was more or less insignificant.

Mansoor, Naseer Hussain’s child who was making a directorial debut wanted to cast brother Amir as the lead. Amir Khan and Juhi Chawla both debuted in the movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) which was a commercial success. The movie garnered praises from the entire Bollywood fraternity and few called it a trendsetter of the Indian Cinema.
The stage was set for Amir, and a year later Aditya Bhattacharya’s Raakh hit the big screen which was shot before Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. The film did not do well at the box office. - Comments on intolerance
Khan raged up controversy when he said that India has slowly become an intolerant country and his wife doesn’t feel safe enough to live in the country. People started having an opinion and bashed Amir for his inappropriate comments. The rage intensified when few politicians stepped in to accuse Amir of his words. The entire episode created a stir in the social media and Amir Khan’s fan didn’t look much amused by the statement
- “Shah Rukh is my Dog’s name”
The Khans had a notorious fight in the media when both accused each other with harsh words. Amir stated in the media that Shah Rukh was his dog’s name. Later, the actor himself went at Shah Rukh Khan’s Bungalow with an apology.
